Anantha House, Batticalo
Situated in the cultural heart of the Eastern Province, Anantha House captures the essence of modern tropical design infused with local character. Combining open living spaces, shaded verandas, and sustainable materials, it embodies Excello’s philosophy of harmony between architecture, environment, and lifestyle.
Challenge
Designing a residence that truly reflected Batticaloa’s tropical climate and cultural identity required a delicate balance between modern living and traditional sensibilities.
The challenge was to create a comfortable, climate-responsive home that remained naturally cool and energy-efficient, while expressing a distinct architectural language rooted in local heritage.
The site’s exposure to seasonal monsoon conditions and strong eastern sunlight further demanded a thoughtful approach to orientation, materiality, and spatial planning.
Solution
Excello’s design team approached the project with a context-driven philosophy, incorporating passive cooling techniques, extended roof overhangs, and cross-ventilated open plans to enhance comfort throughout the year.
Locally sourced materials — clay tiles, timber, and stone — were integrated with minimalist modern detailing, blending tradition with sophistication.
Verdant courtyards and shaded verandas connect indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a serene living environment that celebrates both nature and culture.
The result is a home that stands as a model for sustainable tropical architecture — timeless, grounded, and uniquely Eastern in spirit.
